Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Zerga ("Zerga", "we", "us") is a sugar tracking app for iPhone. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who processes it for us, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account, your profile and answers, and the food you log.
- Photos you scan are sent for AI analysis and are not stored by us.
- We never sell your data and do not use it for third-party advertising.
- You can delete your account and all your data at any time from the app.
Data we collect
Account
Your email address and a sign-in identifier, when you create an account with Sign in with Apple or email. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email (Apple then gives us a private relay address).
Profile and onboarding answers
The answers you give during onboarding: sex, date of birth, height, weight, activity level, goals, and your answers about energy, focus, sleep, headaches, skin, tracking habits and commitment. We use them to calculate your personal daily sugar limit and to tailor the app.
Sugar logs
The foods and drinks you log: name, portion, estimated added and natural sugar, category, date and time. They power your Home, Progress and streak.
Photos for AI analysis
When you scan a meal or drink, the photo is sent through our server to our AI provider (Anthropic) to estimate its sugar. We do not keep the photo after the analysis. It is not added to your account and not used to train AI models.
Barcodes and searches
When you scan a barcode or search a product, the barcode or search term is sent to Open Food Facts to look up the product. No personal information is attached.
Purchases
Subscriptions are paid through Apple. We never see your payment card. Our subscription provider (RevenueCat) receives the transaction details from Apple, linked to your Zerga account identifier, so we know whether your subscription is active.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we use your device's push token to send reminders and limit alerts. You can turn them off at any time in your iPhone Settings.
We do not collect your location, contacts or browsing history.
Service providers
These companies process data on our behalf, only to run Zerga, under contracts that protect it:
| Provider | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Account, database and server functions | Account, profile, answers, sugar logs |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status | Account identifier, purchase details from Apple |
| Anthropic | AI sugar estimates from photos | The photo you scan (not stored by us) |
| Open Food Facts | Product lookups | Barcode or search term only |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, payments, notifications | As described in Apple's privacy policy |
Some providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use your logs or photos to build advertising profiles.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your account and all associated data (profile, answers, sugar logs) are deleted from our database right away and from backups within 30 days. Scan photos are never kept.
Delete your account
In the app, open Profile and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and data. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription: cancel it in your iPhone Settings (see Support).
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or restrict some processing. Write to zerga.app@outlook.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), with your consent where needed (photos you choose to scan, notifications), and for our legitimate interest in keeping Zerga secure and working.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and access to it is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Zerga is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Health information
Zerga is a wellness app. It does not provide medical advice, and sugar values are estimates. We treat your answers and logs as personal data and protect them as described here.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
